August 2010 to Present Date: Technical Support Analyst: Virgin Media BusinessI currently work on the 24 hour Rota duty at Fountain Court in Cardiff, which is a 24/7 365 days a year faults reception centre. My function is as a 2nd line Technical support on the Virgin Media Data Products such as National Ethernet, Managed Internet Access, VOIP and the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) products which Virgin Media have recently started marketing. I also look after the Voice Products such as ISDN on the Nortel DMS100, System "X" and Nokia Switches.I look at data and voice calls raised by the 1st Line staff, diagnose the fault and if possible clear the issue remotely, if this is not possible we will raise a task for an external engineer to attend the customer site. We also monitor the network for any issues and raise these issues with the relevant Network Management centre. These will usually consist of Fibre or Duct Damage, damage to our network caused by external service providers such as the local power companies, or power issues within our Point of Interconnect (POP) sites. Additionally as we are 24/7, we are involved in the validating of new orders by checking and validating the designated equipment against the order to make sure that they are built correctly and that the circuits when supplied will be viable. Finally I am currently studying for my CCNA which I am hoping to take prior to the end of November.

I secured a position with Kingston Communications as a Switch Technician in March 2002. Kingston are a Hull based Telephony company that has a network presence throughout England. I looked after System "X" and Nortel DMS100 digital switches and the associated buildings in Bristol, Reading and Milton Keynes and was on a one in three callout Rota.

I was a Technical Instructor at Alcatel Telecom University in Newport devising and delivering courses on Alcatel’s SDH and fibre optic Products, namely the 1651 Add-drop Multiplexer, the 1660 and 1670 Multi-service Nodes and the 1353/54 SH/RM Network Manager.

South Wales And Bristol

Switch Datafill and Maintenance technician for NTL communications. NTL were an American multimedia provider that has since been re-branded as Virgin Media. I worked in the Cardiff, Newport, and Swansea Headends. I was also the clerk of works on the Transit switching site at Aztec West. I worked on this for 6 months starting with an empty building shell, and finishing with a fully provisioned switch site. The scope of work involved everything from building of the false floor, duct and fibre installation, electrical switchgear commissioning, Cisco router equipment and the installation of the Nortel DMS100 digital switch.
