Leading the technical activities for a fleet of 60 new intercity passenger trains for Transport for NSW. These train will replace the ageing V sets and give high levels of safety and passenger amenity featuring new features and a high level of quality.

Michael is a mechanical engineer with over 30 years of engineering and engineering safety experience on major engineering projects, especially those relating to railway engineering. Commencing as an apprentice, Michael has carried out rolling stock maintenance, engineering design drafting, design, RAM and Safety Engineering for some of the major railway infrastructure and rolling stock projects implemented recently including the Northern Sydney Rail Corridor Upgrade, the NSW Digital Train Radio implementation, the Waratah Rolling Stock PPP Project, the Tangara Technology Upgrade and the New Intercity Fleet Rolling Stock project. Michael has developed Engineering Safety programs, RAM management programs and developed the Safety Assurance argument and manged the configuration stage gate process for these projects. Michael has been an independent safety assessor for software developed under EN50128 for projects in Victoria, Singapore and China. Michael has been the Safety and Accreditation Manager for a major freight operator, obtaining Rail Safety Accreditation from the Rail Regulator in 4 states of Australia. Michael holds a bachelor of mechanical engineering and has been qualified to the level of train controller in NSW in the past.

Managing project and engineering risks for the project to deliver new rolling stock for the Sydney passenger network. Activities included the development and management of a Project Risk Data base, facilitating Qualitative and Quantitative risk assessments and review and comment on Engineering Safety as applied by the contractor.

Managed the Rail Safety and Accreditation aspects of FreghtCorp including achiving Rail Safety Accreditation in NSW, Qld, Vic and SA.Also initiate and managed an active risk reduction campaign based on the "top ten" risk issues that saw an incremental improvement in safety performance.
