Chief Electronics Technician
Chief Electronics Technician I was the direct supervisor for 10 electronic technicians'. Their job was to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a network centric systems in the CSRR. They performed back-ups, rebuilt servers, installed patches, software updates, removed log files and cleaned systems prior to bring back on-line. I developed detailed training plans for each person in the division. Each person received on the OJT for different aspects of the CSRR. Oversaw the LAN maintenance, daily, weekly and monthly back up were being completed and properly stored and accounted for. All troubleshooting and corrective maintenance; which pertains to the CSRR specifically distance troubleshooting, ensured each person knew how to tell when systems weren't communicating and how to correct the problems. Taught them to understand data flow to increase bandwidth when connecting to MS exchange servers to ensure all traffic was sent to the distant end. Taught basic and advanced IP and troubleshooting to my personnel to include Cisco router and switch functions to add in troubleshooting router issues. Provided oversight and instruction in operation of MS Windows, Solaris, and UNIX/LINUX operating systems. Provided daily instructions on projects that were being accomplished. Planned and oversaw all externally generated maintenance. Attended meetings for planning and scheduling items applicable to both LAN and Comms divisions. Provided counseling and wrote evaluations. Served as the Information Assurance Manager, oversaw all security, primary point of contact for network issues. Wrote detailed procedures and contingency plans for ship board networks. Provided updates to reporting seniors on network status, Responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining the DoD information system Information Assurance program, and for documenting the IA program through the DoD IA process.
