I work on the core C++ video playback logic and its surrounding tooling and infrastructure for the Twitch and Amazon Interactive Video Service video players.I've managed and been the sole developer for the fuzz testing efforts for the video player, managed the creation of a CI pipeline and real-time dashboard for monitoring code coverage and test results for all video player products, implemented various HLS and ABR optimizations, handled day-to-day playback bug fixes, and lowered distribution costs, latency, and time-to-video for millions of viewers worldwide.

I designed and developed an HLS capture tool for the Twitch video player which stores and allows for the static analysis of incoming HLS stream data (master playlists, variant playlists, and MPTS segments) as well as outgoing muxed fMP4 segments. The tool also generates HLS event playlists to allow for VOD-style playback of the captured segments. I built the tool into the C++ core layer of the existing player infrastructure to allow multi-platform use (web, ios, android, native, etc), then created a JS/TS web UI for the tool and hooked it into the WebAssembly Emscripten-compiled C++ core functionality. I regularly debugged Twitch and Amazon IVS customer issues with the tool.I continued contracting for Twitch after the end of the internship, hence the 11 month tenure.

The autograder is a large code base composed primarily of SQL databases and Perl, Python, and PHP scripts which store and automatically grade student programming projects. I regularly upgrade and maintain this codebase and act as a sysadmin for the servers where that software lives. I also hold office hours, answer questions on the class forum, create exam questions, and perform administrative tasks with the rest of the team.

I designed and developed a tool that consumes user contract orders from a Kafka topic and injects them into a lane of the company order matching engine at a highly customizable and precise rate (to the microsecond). The tool, named Breeze by a colleague, was written almost entirely by me, with minor code contributions from my manager. I developed / enhanced the following skills: Java, Kafka, Maven, Java app deployment practices, message encoding practices (such as Simple Binary Encoding), multithreading, UDP multicasting using a wrapper API for Tibco FTL, ring buffers, unit testing, coding for extensibility, Javadoc, documentation.

I worked on a research project seeking a more nuanced picture of abortion attitudes in the United States, taking data from all past political polls which mentioned the word 'abortion'. I parsed through survey data, assisted with edge-case debugging in R, and reformatted unusable files so the algorithm could handle them without error.

I coached youth ages 3-6 in the basic aspects of soccer during the summers from 2014 to 2018. I designed and executed practice sessions for groups of 20 players to train specific skills like passing, dribbling, basic moves, and shooting. While the gig was partially technical, most of my effort went towards keeping the kids active and happy: making sure everyone was kicking their ball and not someone else's, making sure no one was crying, making sure everyone was running around. I was commended by my bosses and the parents of the players for my high energy, work ethic, and patience with the kids.
