As Manager Business Intelligence - Advancement, Michael focused his efforts on understanding the business of fund-raising and philanthropy in the university sector to ensure that the outputs of his team provided value in that purpose, and meaningful measures of progress toward goals. He played a crucial role in future-fitting the reporting and analysis capabilities of his team. He successfully navigated the team and stakeholders through a CRM migration and stabilisation phase. He also made significant contributions to the product in both the robust reporting infrastructure, and a clear roadmap for future development. Michael's contributions are marked by impactful reports such as the KPI report and Gift Pipeline that were derived from how the tool was used and acted as a positive feedback loop that improves data quality. He exploited his skills as a natural design thinker, and led to the establishment of a culture of continuous improvement, which permeated beyond his team and resonated throughout the broader ANU advancement community. In this role Michael's demonstrated his innovative approach, his dedication to understanding genuine business requirements, championing automation and efficiency improvements to deliver organisational value.

In this role Michael identified waste in organisational processing and developed agile and dynamic solutions to increase efficiency and accuracy in processing. During this time he worked across a number of the ANU colleges, and enhanced many centralised processes. He achieved this by leveraging data from centralised source-of-truth systems.Achievements of note include * staff tutor planning based on student course migration patterns from year to year.* using RPA to consolidate individual active research grants into a centralised dataset to ensure milestones and budgets were proactively managed* reduce errors in research aquittal rejections that were measured in many 10s of percentage points to less than 5%* streamlining teaching hour preference options from a paper-based process with a dozen touch points, to an automated process that injected data directly into the timetabling system.Michael worked very closely with student interns, supporting them in their projects and providing opportunities to exercise autonomy and judgement.

Michael was initially engaged in a contract role to design and develop a aggregated dashboard application to manage teaching staff qualifications, certifications, and to track progress and compliance status of institute obligations. Each staff member had access to a maintainable CV that was sourced from HR data. Each Principal had an both an aggregated view, and drill down options into the school's fleet of teachers providing the status of their certifications, progress to institute compliance, and training profile. The central office (managing ~60 schools) had a full aggregated view of all schools, that could be drilled down to individuals.The product was called My Performance and Development (MyPaD). MyPad was integrated and allowed data sharing with Teacher Quality Institute, and was expanded to several other diocese in NSW.On the back of the success of MyPaD Michael was appointed to a permanent position charged with developing project management culture across the CEO.

In this role Michael works on a number of corporate wide projects including; developing mechanisms for cross system communication, retiring and replacing existing systems, devising ways in which efficiencies can be exploited in processing and maintenance tasks. This position requires Michael to have an understanding of broad business goals, the University’s strategic technical direction, and consult widely to devise creative mechanisms to implementing change without major disruption of existing workflows and processes.

GPSports was a very early GPS wearable device for elite sports. During this time Michael was intrinsic in raising capital, and leading a technical team from a function prototype a production product. This work led to an Australian Design Award, and an ACT Government Exporter award.

Michael lead and ran the multidisciplinary "Design Practice Management" course for 3rd Year students of the UC Design School. Disciplines included; Graphic Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Industrial Design. Content included issues such as Business Operations, and Intellectual Property.
