I lead our merchant frontline business in the SME segment with a strong focus on delivering world class customer service, excellent risk management and governance and fostering an environment for my people to learn, grow and thrive. More specifically I lead our 3 customer facing Merchant Teams (including the business development, solutions and service functions) and support roles responsible for the delivery of our merchant proposition both direct to our ANZ customers and via our network of bankers across New Zealand. In 2021, 2022 and 2024 ANZ has been awarded the Canstar Award for ‘Most Satisfied Merchant Customers’ in the small business category.

Returning to my earlier role, I managed a team of Relationship Managers based around New Zealand with responsibility for driving ANZ’s merchant payments proposition with the additional focus of supporting ANZ's business and commercial cards proposition in our SME customer segment via our Business and Commercial Banking Teams. I was responsible for setting and delivering our engagement and sales strategies, managing stakeholder and third-party relationships, channel performance and reporting and driving simplification and process improvement initiatives.

Auckland

In this secondment, I worked as a partner to our Product Teams on initiatives to help drive longer term positive financial outcomes for our customers. Using a data driven approach to help identify customers that may no longer be on the right product for their needs or may not be getting or making the most of the intended product benefits I worked on multi-channel pro-active contact strategies to re-educate customers on product features and benefits and where appropriate suggest other products which may better suit their needs or drive a better financial outcome for them. During my time in the team, I was largely focused on the personal credit card portfolio 'Persistent Debt' programme of work.

Auckland

In this Secondment, I had the opportunity to work on the personal credit card portfolio gaining insights and experience in ANZ's card issuing business. I was focused on direct customer acquisition and customer journey communications, pro-active and re-active cardholder retention, working closely with our frontline banking teams on process improvement and documentation and on portfolio performance initiatives and reporting.

Working in closely with the Product Team, and leading a small team I was responsible for the internal and external business, marketing and change communications to both customers and stakeholders and representing the Merchant Business unit's interests on wider ANZ projects and regulatory changes.

London, United Kingdom

Initially a 4 month contract to oversee the companies staff and shareholder proposition which included marketing life, disability, general insurance and investment products to Legal & General staff and shareholders. My brief was to review the existing program and create a new multi-channel marketing plan to raise awareness of the proposition, create sales as well as developing reporting to measure campaign successes and product penetration. Secondly, a stint in the Investments Team marketing wealth investment products to customers via press and ‘above the line’ advertising. Additionally, I was responsible for the investment product fulfilment literature and managed the 2006 Financial Services Authority regulatory updates.

Wellington

I ran targeted direct mail and outbound call campaigns offering life, disability and funeral plan products. I managed all aspects of the campaigns from conception to execution, i.e. campaign objectives, target audience selection and segmentation, product and offer development, testing strategies, agency, print and mailhouse functions, budgets and post campaign analysis.
