Transformed ideologically narrow monthly into a vibrant inclusive publication. Pitted against publications with over 200,000 circulation, WIPWM, with 7,000 readers, won its first place award in the national ILCA 2012 contest.

The visionary behind and co-leader of the West Michigan and nationwide effort by an all volunteer, non-profit group to raise and build the $1.3 million "Spirit of Solidarity" national immigrant/labor monument located a few hundred feet from the front door of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. Endorsed by Ford, labor, business, civic groups, and the city of Grand Rapids, Mayor Heartwell dedicated the finished monument April 2007. It is the only labor monument in North America in front of a presidential museum. It honors the Dutch, German, Polish, and Lithuanian immigrants who built and made Grand Rapids the "furniture capital" and their four month lost Great 1911 furniture strike attempting to secure the nine hour work day. It also honors all immigrants who came and are still coming to the U.S. They have enriched the U.S. and changed it for the better. Awarded the The Albert Baxter Award by The Grand Rapids Historical Society in in 2010.

Pioneered innovative teaching of U.S., and world history. Taught current affairs, U.S. government, and partnered with Chamber of Commerce endorsed Junior Achievement program. Debate, journalism, and Model U.N. adviser/coach. Students won first statewide awards in journalism and debate while coach. Pioneered co-teaching mainstreamed special education students.
