About Michael Kane
Currently working with Laing O’Rourke on Edinburgh St James Centre and gained a lot of experience with the construction and fabrication side of the design process, whilst using my knowledge of being an Electrical Labourer, Mechanical labourer, and general labourer on sites. One other of the main aspects I was able to bring was the production of families to the business that was gathered from my time with TUV SUD Real Estate, and the knowledge of how to create bespoke electrical families for the Project. Along with an expanse knowledge of BIM Level 2 I was a good addition to the team.After several years within sales came to an end I took a position with a construction firm as a general labour and even at this stage I saw my interest in design slowly come back without me evening knowing it. However due to the economic down turn in construction and after talks with my partner I decided to take a back seat and become the “house husband” for a while to let my partner concentrate on her career path as there was some developments there that would get her more advanced up in the company.While this was going ahead and the kids getting older I decided to see if I could fill in some of my free time with study and after some research I found a course in HNC construction that would help in finding a placement in this industry and from this I could see that my passion for design could be advanced through a few more years study and after my partner said that I should go and do this as she was happy in her placement that there was no need to put off my dreams any more.From this my passion for architecture and design I have strived to achieve my Bsc in sustainable architectural design and from this being almost complete, I see my dream job becoming a reality and now this student part of my life coming to an end I am very eager to start putting my new found skills with my passion for the subject of architectural technology to practice with a firm that is emotive and has the same environment of individuals that have the same passion as myself.
