Profile bio

About Michael K.

Hey there, welcome to my LinkedIn profile! The name's Michael Kirkham, and I'm not your typical professional. I actually started out as a professional gamer, believe it or not. I created my very own esports league, sold it off, and used the funds to dive headfirst into the world of scripting and video game cheating. Now, before you judge, hear me out! I helped change the world of video game cheating by assisting in setting a positive precedent, albeit legally. It was a wild ride, taking an unethical opportunity and turning it into something that helped shape the industry as a whole. Looking back, I wouldn't change what happened because it played a crucial role in shaping the person I am today. After my adventures in gaming, and during my time with Impulse software and it's subsidiaries, I took on the role of a marketing manager at Grooveshark, where I led a team that worked on an early online advertising implementation, a key project called Beluga with some nifty analytics and monetization features. It was a thrilling experience, but ethical concerns led me to part ways with Grooveshark and Impulse. I took a detour and worked at Home Depot while tinkering with micro niche websites on the side during a time when Google's algorithm allowed it. Turns out, those websites would become the foundation in creating a small web agency called QPA or Quality Projects Agency (QPA.co). I dabbled in web development and marketing skilled labor upselling, which handled clients who needed programming and marketing-based projects and websites. Eventually, I sold the company because I realized that returning to school was one of the most important and crucial things I needed to do for my own personal growth.I have always had a massive passion for the internet and video dating back to when I was a child. During my college years, and even today, I harnessed my marketing prowess to manage brands, develop products, and build successful YouTube and TikTok channels for various creators and brands. It was a whirlwind experience that allowed me to combine my love for content creation and storytelling with my other passion, marketing. But you know what? I'm not done yet. Now, I'm on a quest to pursue my passion into the exciting world of software development, which was one of my original passions in life. So, if you're up for a wild and unpredictable journey, experiencing my failures and embracing some victories, then tag along for the ride, and let's find personal and professional growth vicariously, together.

I started my journey by running micro-niche websites, utilizing search engine optimization to my advantage. This led me to establish an online-based web agency, offering software development services. With a team of seven employees and partnerships with over 20 professionals worldwide, the agency experienced rapid growth. However, I made the decision to sell the company and its assets to focus on my education, leaving behind my web agency dream in pursuit of my own personal higher calling, which is higher education, software development, video editing, and online video marketing for social media. I ended up pursuing business, management, and economics, but retained a singular goal of pushing for my dream of software development and video editing since I was a small child. As a web agency founder, I took on diverse responsibilities such as project management, client acquisition, and team leadership. By delivering innovative solutions tailored to clients' needs, we earned a reputation for excellence. Collaborating with industry professionals, we provided cutting-edge designs and embraced emerging technologies to stay ahead of the curve.Although the web agency is now defunct, the experience shaped my professional journey and inspired my commitment to continuous growth. The strategic decisions made, client-centric approach, and industry knowledge gained have become valuable assets that continue to drive my future endeavors.

Marketing & Content Specialist

Rochester, New York, United States

Though my time was short with High Tech Rochester (NextCorps), during my time, I passionately supported and fostered growth for next generation innovative businesses. I spearheaded program support using a data-driven initiative that focused on increasing success rates of incubator-based startups. I would guide founders through critical stages, help to improve and expand on product vision and creation, even to help with the vision of products for manufacturing startups. I helped to assess product-market fit, develop roadmap development, and determine feature prioritization from a "growth hack" perspective at the time. I helped to lead others in designing marketing materials and expand NextCorps locally so that companies knew that they had an incubator option. Beyond general incubator work, I managed the incubator's marketing strategy at the time under supervision. I curated and crafted compelling online social media content to increase website traffic, and would advertise locally, state-wide, and regionally to startups looking for a potential incubator. Our social media campaigns generated more qualified startup applicants. I also helped execute effective event marketing strategies with event attendance engagement and retention. Lastly, I also played a major role in researching some early startup metrics like lead conversion rates, customer acquisition costs, contract negotiations, and more. My efforts in a short time span, without a doubt, played a strong role for High Tech Rochester (NextCorps) in their growth, as I helped to set the level of expectation in future marketing specialists and managers at NextCorps.
