My perspective is psychodynamic and I tend to be an active listener, as I believe it is important for me, as the therapist, to openly share my thoughts. I also provide personality assessment of children, teens and adults for those who are interested in answering their own, their child's or, for other professionals, their patients' diagnostic questions.Therapy with Children & AdolescentsWith young children, 4 and up, I use play therapy to understand their concerns and feelings as well as to help them to learn about themselves better so as to feel better about themselves, to trust themselves better and to be able to express themselves in ways that are more constructive. For example, many children (especially boys) have trouble controlling themselves. I help such kids become more aware of the thoughts and feelings that drive their acting out so that they become better able at noticing when they are about to do so and to help to address what might be underlying their behavior. With kids with depression, anxiety or OCD concerns, the same applies: helping them to know their feelings and thoughts better helps free them up to enjoy more of their lives without feeling inhibited. With teens, I use talk therapy to help them to know themselves more honestly and to know their feelings better so they can make their feelings heard to others in ways that are productive and mutually respectful.
