I'm an ambitious, artistic, and self-driven software engineer with 20+ years of experience creating solutions for some of the best companies around.I'm very interested in usability and find it to be an essential part of the software design process. A few of my favorite books on the subject are "The Design of Everyday Things" by Donald Norman, and "User Interface Design for Programmers" by Joel Spolsky.My latest passion has been with Android. I've been involved in writing software for Android for the past 7 years. Over this time, I've realized that many of the things I wished were available to me as a Java/J2EE/Java Swing developer are baked into Android. Although programming for any platform is not without its pitfalls and best practices, my experience has allowed me to understand both very well as it pertains to the Java language and the Android platform. Android/Java beginners tend to make the same types of mistakes that can be very costly down the road to find and fix. I know what these are and I avoid them. For those that I am unaware of, I make heavy use of tools like Android Lint and FindBugs to help make me aware.I've written a couple of critically acclaimed word games through my company Anthrological (WordUp! and Letter Rip!) WordUp! was available on the day the Android market went live and went on to garner over 2 million downloads and a 4+ star rating.My job with Trimble allowed me to serve as an Android technical lead and be involved in my project from its inception. I've worked with and am familiar with most aspects of the Android software stack. This includes everything from User Interface to Content Providers backed by SQLite Databases to Services.I believe that successful software development requires disciplined engineering, artistic vision, good communication, the ability to call an audible and move quickly around obstacles, and obsessive compulsive disorder all in roughly equal amounts.
