About Michael Snow
I bring 7+ years of agile leadership experience as a Certified Scrum Master, Certified SAFe 6.0 POPM, and Agilist in general. Initially skeptical of agile, my perspective shifted after attaining my MBA and taking a PSPO1 class. This lead me to implement comprehensive agile practices at Lynxspring. My commitment to Agility resulted in improved productivity and positive feedback for my Director coming from the ownership group.Recruited away by JB Hunt, I sought broader enterprise-level exposure. Despite a whirlwind experience, I resigned after 1 1/2 years, a rare move for me. Driven by numbers, the validity of this decision still leads me to find it to have been in my best interest as well as my family’s. Software Development Manager
During my tenure at JB Hunt, I faced significant challenges, particularly when two managers on my team departed within three months of my arrival. The Shipper team, already in disarray, had previously lost another two managers in the past year. Despite recognizing the issue, I aimed to avoid appearing as a job hopper, having a track record of over three years in previous roles. I wanted to improve the situation and committed to staying for at least a year.Taking on a troubled Mobile development team and a Web team, I discovered the mobile product was in terrible shape with no releases in eight months, undefined work, and a lack of proper branches. With high turnover (PO, Lead Dev, Mgrs) I assumed additional roles and spent the next seven months rebuilding the team, addressing a steep learning curve, and emotional management challenges. My web team continued to implement a few features, and my exposure to web tech expanded in regards to things such as Kubernetes and ADO. During my time with Shipper, a high turnover led to hiring many developers and two managers. But what I feel is a credit to me, none of these were for individuals I managed.Despite numerous discussions with my director, being the only manager for nearly 6 months, and having worked over 55 hours per week since June ’22, it was requested that I do more. Recognizing the impact to my health and my family, I made the decision to resign on June 22, 2023.While I initially felt frustrated, I now appreciate the valuable experience gained. I suspect directives from higher levels influenced a return-to-office mandate post-Covid. Despite the challenges, I conducted numerous interviews for managers as well as developers. I navigated team frustrations without losing a team member. Most importantly, I maintained professionalism, leaving the Shipper team in a better position than I inherited it.
Software Developer -> Operations Manager -> Development Manager
My time at Lynxspring was enriching, starting as a developer and progressing to Software Operations Manager. Then, while gaining my MBA, I became Development Manager as my predecessor departed. Lynxspring operates in Building Automation, specializing in a niche market. Reporting to the R&D Director, our team devised a device facilitating the porting of Niagara software for controlling machinery, lights, and diverse applications. As the lead creator for the Niagara driver on our proprietary network (OnyxxNetwork), I empowered the control of HVAC systems, pumps, and building lighting. The Edge 534, our most successful product, spawned another triumph with the Edge 514.In this compact company, I juggled various roles—Scrum Master, Product Owner, Operations Manager, and Release Manager. As a Product Owner, I collaborated with stakeholders to discern product needs. Serving as Scrum Master, I refined processes, fostering trust with stakeholders. Managing releases, I orchestrated seamless updates in collaboration with support and marketing. In operations, I streamlined device building and testing, implementing quality tracking.Reflecting on my impact, my code runs in buildings, universities, cruise liners, federal courts, local restaurants, and major gas stations. Collaborating globally, I assisted customer in installations, contributing to energy conservation and making the world a better place. Departing Lynxspring for new opportunities at JB Hunt, I sought career advancement and fresh challenges.
