Dr. Michael Lawless is a psychologist and health services researcher at the Caring Futures Institute, Flinders University. His research is all about improving the health and wellbeing of older people. His work focuses on innovative ways to do research that puts patients’ and community narratives at the centre, ensuring that research makes a real difference in people’s livesDr. Lawless’ research program covers a range of issues within health services, particularly focusing on ageing, chronic condition management, frailty, and knowledge translation/implementation science. His work spans various aspects of health and social care provision and patient experiences, addressing challenges such as implementing sustainable health programs for older adults in rural areas and combatting social isolation and loneliness among older individuals.Employing qualitative, arts-based, mixed methods, and co-design methodologies, Dr. Lawless integrates diverse approaches to transform research findings into evidence-based tools and products. Currently, he leads interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding the complexities of self-management among older individuals residing in the community, particularly those facing social and economic challenges.Dr. Lawless is passionate about collaborative, applied research and is currently a Chief/Associate Investigator on Medical Research Future Fund projects dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing of older populations across community, primary care, and residential aged care environments.
