Quantum Communications Research InternQeynet May 2023 - Dec 2023Waterloo, Ontario, CanadaAdvancing the practical security of satellite quantum-key-distribution (QKD). π°οΈβοΈβ Conducted in-depth information leakage simulations and opto-mechanical device characterizations, employing advanced techniques to assess and enhance the end-to-end security of QEYnet's free-space QKD transmitter.β Developed a pointing, acquisition, and guiding system for static QKD links.β Compressed the error-correcting codes utilized in QKD post-processing, conserving satellite bandwidth and memory.β Managed a collaboration with an undergraduate software development team from the University of Toronto to build a telemetry monitoring and visualization solution specifically tailored for QKD satellite telemetry. An MScAC Applied Research Internship supervised by Prof. Li Qian and Dr. Jean-Philippe Bourgoin. -
Material Physics And Analytics InternBasf May 2022 - Aug 2022Ludwigshafen Am Rhein, Rhineland-Palatinate, GermanyAutomating data acquisition on transmission electron microscopes. π¬βοΈβ Developed and deployed pyTEM, the Python library automating data acquisition on transmission electron microscopes: https://github.com/basf/pyTEM.β Automated the micro-crystal electron diffraction data-acquisition sequence, reducing operator time and error while enabling batch processing and imaging of beam-sensitive materials.β Obtained general exposure to the electron microscopy laboratory environment and physics laboratory safety.A German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) funded RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) Professional internship supervised by Dr. Philipp MΓΌller. -
Summer Research AssistantInstitute Of Space And Atmospheric Studies (Isas) May 2021 - Aug 2021University Of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, CanadaAnalyzing ionospheric data from ground-based radars and scientific satellites. π‘πβ Developed a suite of data analysis scripts and produced data visuals for a diverse array of space-science research initiatives involving various ground-based radars and scientific satellites. β Leveraged the cartopy Python library to produce state-of-the-art map-based plots.β Developed an algorithm to reliably calibrate SuperDARN elevation angle data by leveraging percent differences in F-layer scatter.A Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) sponsored project supervised by Dr. Sasha Koustov. Most of my work involved the Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SuperDARN). Systems Engineering InternImperial Oil Sep 2019 - Aug 2020Cold Lake, Alberta, CanadaKeeping Cold Lake's process control network up and running. ππ οΈβ Replaced failed hardware and troubleshot failed software and systems to maintain the integrity of the process control network.β Oversaw Cold Lake Operation's instrumentation-related logistical initiatives, including a site-wide digitization effort and SAP critical equipment refresh. These projects required managing a global team of 14 during the early, uncertain days of the COVID-19 pandemic.β Penned a new alarm management philosophy consolidating all procedures, workflows, and definitions into a single document that establishes the alarm management criteria, definitions, and principles that govern Cold Lake Operations.β Developed a dynamic XHQ DV data visualization screen to replace an antiquated pipeline surveillance spreadsheet. This new tool allows the pipeline integrity team to automate the surveillance of the various parameters key to pipeline health.Other work term projects included a backup system and schema update; an ISCR (industrial control system requirements) inventory refresh; helping deploy a third-party bad actor resolution workflow; updating Cold Lakeβs process data historian; and a removable media inventory and awareness training refresh. -
