Technical management of passenger and freight vessels ensuring the vessels are maintained in a safe and seaworthy condition in accordance with the requirements and instructions issued by the company, national and international administrations.Responsible for setting an annual budget of each vessel for running costs and dry-docking and to ensure actual costs fall within the budget figures and suggesting action to reduce expenditure where the budget is exceeded. Seconded by BP shipping to assist with new build projects Triton & Neptune overseeing construction and delivery of handy-max/handy-size product tankers & Afra-max crude carriers in South Korea (HMD Ulsan & STX Jinhae/Goseong shipyards) and to assist in preparing a vessel for entering service.Responsible for informing the BP Shipping of any issues, defects or additional work that could delay or prevent delivery of respective vessels into service.Ensuring compliance with OMS (onboard management system), new build delivery procedures and supporting completion of post-delivery technical shake-down checklist and management of change, where vessel moves from shakedown into operation.

Management of the Engine Department, comprising officers, petty officers, and crew of the assigned vessel. After completion of my college time and securing a National Diploma in Marine and Plant Engineering (Cork Institute of technology), I was offered a cadetship sailing on dry-cargo bulk carriers and product oil tankers on coastal and limited European trading.Upon successful completion of my certificate of competency (Class 4), I was promoted to second engineering officer where my responsibilities included functioning as a member of the Shipboard Emergency Response and Fire Fighting Team in accordance with the muster lists and shipboard contingency plans. Operation and maintenance of ships Life Saving and Fire Fighting Appliances including lifeboats, fire extinguishers, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), compressed air breathing apparatus (CABA) and EEBDs (Emergency Escape Breathing Device) and designated machinery components.
