Worked as a groundworks plant operator contracted to SSE. In this job I assisted SSE in carrying out works on their cables and poles.This job involved a lot of road works, digging to expose LV and HV cables, using the digger to a safe depth then digging the rest by hand. This gave me plenty experience in setting up mobile work sites and working safely in busy pedestrian areas. I did a lot of new connections for them aswell, digging cable tracks, laying the cable and blinding it. This taught me to always survey an area before excavating and to mark any utilities properly incase of future excavation.Sometimes I would install new overhead poles or renew old poles, if they couldn’t be lifted in by HIAB, I would lift them and plant them with a digger on a chain and shackle. This boosted my communication skills as I was relying on a good banksman and had to trust what they were telling me was correct.
