From Rusinga Island, Kenya to Northwestern University School of Law to private legal practice to in-house Deputy General Counsel to being the only lawyer in the organization's legal department to boomeranging back to private practice, my career has been a series of taking calculated risks and seizing opportunities. While a student at Northwestern Law, a chance meeting with a Chicago real estate developer piqued my interest in real estate, turned into a summer job and shaped the rest of my career as a diverse and well-seasoned real estate attorney. Upon graduation, I opted to join a very reputable mid sized regional law firm where I gained a tremendous amount of hands-on experience representing real estate professionals in a short period of time. With that experience in hand, I was recruited by Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, a premier global financial services law firm, where I participated in some of the largest real estate deals for major clients, such as Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Brookfield, Bank of America, Blackstone and more. From CWT I joined Schulte Companies (the fourth largest hospitality company), where I worked closely with the CEO and senior leadership on all legal matters affecting the company. This included drafting and negotiating a host of multimillion-dollar agreements and transaction documents, managing risk and litigation, overseeing regulatory compliance and advising our capital partners. In 2021 I was recruited back to Frost Brown Todd as a Partner in the Commercial Real Estate/CMBS Practice Group. I currently co-chair the Student Housing Financial Industry Sub-team. Motivated by challenge and the opportunity to add value, I have always given 100% in each of my roles. As much as I have given to all of my employers, I have received an equal amount back in the satisfaction of a career I am proud of.About Rusinga Island, Kenya. … After college and before applying for law school, I decided to expand my world view with international travel. This ultimately led to my volunteering for an American NGO on a remote island in Lake Victoria, Kenya, where I lived for a year in a dung hut without running water or electricity. During the course of my year, we expanded the micro-loan program by 300% to help families escape the cycle of poverty. I truly feel that this experience was so fulfilling that it benefitted me even more than the families that I helped.
