My name is Michael Martinez. Here’s a small portion of my story: Years ago, my parents immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico to pursue the American Dream for their family. As a first-generation American and first in my family to graduate from college, their sacrifice is not lost on me. I believe that I’m living that dream and am in continuous pursuit of it, on a constant journey to give my own children better opportunities for their future. I am an adversity overcoming Christian, a dedicated husband and father, and a trailblazer for the rest of my family tree.Through diligence, resilience, and a strong willingness to learn, I’ve been blessed to be where I am today. I graduated with an associates degree while still in high school and instead of starting my junior year in any other college as an 18-year-old, I decided to pursue a degree from the United States Military Academy instead. Since graduating from West Point in 2019 with a Mathematics degree, I’ve been serving as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.As a Captain in the military, my most recent job involved leading a team that coordinates and assists with the travel itineraries for military generals and senior level government officials, a position involving an equal mix of project management, organizational leadership, and customer service. My transition goals involve applying those same skills to the financial sector. I’m adept at resource allocation, personnel management, risk analysis, and relationship building in complex, fast paced environments. I have 5 years of experience leading diverse teams of 7-45 people and managing projects across multiple sectors. I possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain valuable relationships that contribute to organizational success. I’m well-versed in professional communication in large group settings, able to both follow and give clear orders and directions, and bring value to any organization that I’m a part of. As I transition out of the Army this year, I’m currently participating as a SkillBridge Fellow with NASA at the office of the Chief Financial Officer at the Kennedy Space Center. Following this fellowship, I’ll be available for full-time employment in September 2024. I’m looking forward to what this next chapter of life will bring and eagerly anticipate potential career opportunities that lie ahead of me.
