Managing Preparation of tender for US$300m equivalent new port in South Afirca.

Responsible for the operations of the South Africa regional office of China Harbour Engineering Company Limited.

General Manager for South Africa, Lesotho & Namibia fo China Harbour Engineering Company Limited. Also providing technical and commercial support to the SADC region.

Engaged to resolve complex contractual issues and fractious relationships between contractor and client and to establish contract administration and compliance systems.Project was to build a piled jetty berth for a major export coal terminal.

Seconded to RioTinto as Dredging Manager for the proposed dredging of the Zambezi River to create a 550km coal barging transport corridor. member of 3 person 'Brains Trust' advising RioTinto Board on development of alternative transport corridor and key contributor to development of Tete-Macuse rail corridor and port.Specialist dredging and marine construction inputs to various projects including sea access to proposed LNG logistics base in Palma, Mozambique and an MOF in St Helena.Day-to-day duties with WorleyParsons included commercial and technical inputs into business development initiatives for a wide variety of major marine projects across Africa.

Responsible for:- dredging & marine construction guidance- contract negotiations, claims preparation and resolution- Client communication- business development for Africa.Projects included Soyo LNG berth, Lobito Mineral Terminal, Lobito New Container Terminal, Lobito Dry Port, Lobito Old Port Rehabilitation.

Engaged as Project Manager and Chief Resident Engineer on a number of oil & gas related maritime development projects. These included:- Resident Engineer - Luanda Bay, 200m of new quay with 14m draft (Milestone 3) - $50m- Resident Engineer -Luanda Bay, 300m of new guay with 14m draft (GRN Quay) - $55m- Resident Engineer - Luanda Bay, Heavy Lift Dock (90m x 30m 14m draft) - $30m- Resident Engineer - Luanda Bay, Heavy Lift Workshop $10m- REsident Engineer - construction of 2 No. 500MT interlocked gantry cranes with a span of 43m - $4m- Chief Resident Engineer - Porto Amboim, 500m rockfill breakwater - $70m- Chief Resident Engineer - new quay for FPSO integration - $50m- Project Manager and Resident Engineer - piled moorings and terminal for a 400MW floating power plant - $5m- Project Manager - pilings for presidential marina - $4m- Project Manager - crew terminal and river diversion- Project Manager - wreck removal - $1mAlso led investigations for redevelopment of abandonned island in Baia do Tigres and reinstatement of major bridges damaged by flooding.

Chief Resident Engineer at Pipavav Port, Gujarat State, India. Pipavav is a major container port development and MIchael was responsible for supervision and management of a wide range of port infrastructure elements including:- LPG offloading facilities- container yards- roads- drainage- LPG and other pipelines - noteworthy as the pipeline was on a tight critical path and contractor was not performing. With the support of the Client, MIchael took over the management of the pipeline construction using the ports direct labour and plant with assistance from the appointed contractors resources. This ensured that the client could meet the contract deadline with the gas company.- capital & maintenance dredging (significant rock) of the navigation channels and for reclamation to expand the port foorprint.- watching brief on Mumbai Port development works.

Chief Resident Engineer for Luanda Bay Dredging & Reclamation Project (US$75m). This project extended the SONILS Oil Service Centre in Luanda Bay and included dredging offshore Luanda to supply sand for the reclamation works. The project included the removal of 8 major shipwrecks (left over from the Angolan Civil War) within the reclamation area.Also provided dredging and reclamation expertise for a number of other projects along the Angolan coast including the Corimba Project (US$90m), a major coastal reclamation project to expand the city centre of Luanda in a southerly direction along the coast.
