Cataloguing the old equipment ready for return to RDC so they could be data wiped/formatted and… Show more I was approached by ComputaCenter regarding a role supporting a PC Refresh overnight deployment.The role was to follow a deployment plan, swapping out legacy XP machines with poor security, affiliated with an outdated domain with the newer, more secure Windows 7 machines.Essentially, we were swapping out old laptops, desktops, keyboards, mice and network cables, with newer ones. Cataloguing the old equipment ready for return to RDC so they could be data wiped/formatted and recycled.Activities included:• Logging on to each legacy device to release IP address so we didn’t run out of IP's.• Cross referencing asset/serial numbers to ensure correct machines were being removed from, and installed to the correct desks.• Logging on to new machines to complete pre-staging, setting up email, printers, and running any Advertised Programs• Pulling down any additionally required software from SCCM/Internet ready for users to start work.Due to the feedback received from my peers and the client, the DM asked if I’d consider returning the next day to continue pre-staging, to which I was happy to.Unexpectedly, the DM also requested i worked at a different RWE site on the Monday morning to assist with floor walking/snagging off activities, again I saw scope for development and was happy to take up the offer.This was a different aspect of the project and was very customer facing rather than technically challenging, although I didn’t always know how to fix a particular issue, I was able to point people in the right direction for assistance/support, this also helped me to build a knowledge base of “how to” with regard to fixing various issues, e.g, installing a missing printer, setting up users email etc, thus further improving my ability to support my team. I received good feedback from the client, and the business, feedback was that they found me quick to pick up new skills, pro-active to learning, friendly, approachable, straight talking and helpful.
