I started my public accounting career with Moss Adams LLP in September 2007 at the Portland, OR office. I was originally employed as a staff accountant and worked my way to audit manager over a 5-year period. During my time in Portland, I provided assurance and consulting services to clients in many industries, including real estate, construction, heavy equipment manufacturing, food products, software, forest products, and employee benefit plans. My experience base eventually became more focused, spending most of my time with clients in the commercial real estate and property management space. In 2011, I became a member of the firm's Real Estate Assurance Services Committee. In the summer of 2013, my family and I transitioned to our San Diego office location where I worked for a year on several clients, including managing audit services for a large public construction company. In the summer of 2014, I decided to pursue my passion for real estate accounting as a property controller with Westcore Properties, LLC headquartered in San Diego. This was an incredible experience that allowed me to work with a wonderful team of professionals and develop my real estate accounting and financial reporting knowledge.Finally, in March 2016, I was presented with an opportunity to work directly with a principal real estate professional with a long successful track record. I would be tasked with the development of a finance & accounting department from the ground up. It was truly something I could not pass up. We had one month to setup a management company and take on managing 1M SF of commercial space, but we didn’t have chairs! That’s right…chairs…or anything else a management company would have. Humble beginnings. After a rocky start, we began to ramp things up. We brought in more management, and started acquiring our first projects. We built out our team and our technology. Deals increased in size and velocity and over the next few years we partnered with well known institutional funds to increase our geographic footprint print. We even started a multifamily division. In 7 years, we transacted 41 acquisitions, including many portfolio deals.
