Michael D. Noel, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Economics at Texas Tech University. He conducts research in the area of Industrial Organization and Strategy and has published research on Oil & Gas competition issues, supermarket competition, pricing strategy, patent strategy, mergers, abuse of dominance, and other topics. Professor Noel is most widely cited for his research on gasoline price setting and the causes and effects of gasoline price cycles known as "Edgeworth Price Cycles".Professor Noel has consulted on behalf of clients in major Oil & Gas matters around the globe involving issues such as price fixing, collective dominance, coordinated behaviors, mergers, and regulation. He has also consulted in a variety of other industries including groceries/supermarkets, managed health care, pharmaceuticals, packaged software, payment cards, book publishing, online search, communications, groceries, and auto manufacturing.In addition to antitrust and merger matters, Professor Noel is also an expert in labor and employment matters including labor market discrimination, wage and hours cases, and other disputes.Professor Noel teaches courses in microeconomics, regulation and antitrust, and has taught at Texas Tech, the University of California at San Diego, MIT, and the University of Toronto. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from M.I.T. and an M.A. and an Hons. B. Sc. from the University of Toronto.
