I earned a private pilot license in 1988 and still fly occasionally today. While I didn't want to be a pilot for a living, my love of aviation saw me become an Air Traffic Controller for nearly 29 years, having worked Tower, Terminal and Enroute airspaces. I was active in improving things, from equipment to procedures to cultivating relations inside my ATC unit and with other units and users. I also spent the last years of my ATC career heavily involved in NAV CANADA's PBN Operational Deployment Team, helping redesign airspace and Instrument Approach Procedures (and the introduction of RNP AR) in Canada's Maritime Provinces.
Listed skills include Flying, Cycling, Programming, Writing, and 18 others.

Moncton Area Control Centre (Czqm)
Operational Air Traffic Controller:Providing low level enroute and terminal control services in the Maritime Provinces of Canada, including some oceanic airspace. Use of surveillance systems was the primary means, but some areas are not covered, requiring non-radar procedures. Ops Team member:The Ops Team is a consultation group for managers' decision making but also works to improve procedures and equipment for the operational environment. I spent over 20 years on this group, having been involved in our interunit arrangements between Moncton ACC and other IFR ATC units, airport control towers and Flight Service Stations, the military, and others. I worked to improve ATC systems for controllers, helping those who build and maintain our systems interact with ATC who uses them, to make them work better to allow more efficient operation/coordination, and ultimately to improve service to the pilots/operators. On-Job-Instructor for ATC trainees:While some work is involved in the simulator, most of my participation in OJI responsibilities involved over-the-shoulder monitoring/coaching while the student worked live traffic.CZQM PBN Working Group Lead:In cooperation with a national initiative by NAV CANADA, Moncton ACC has assembled a small working group to coordinate with the national group on PBN-related issues. Maritime Airspace Modernization Project Lead and PBN ODT Member:Moncton ACC redesigned parts of its airspace to modernize the air route structure and approaches at several maritime airports. Initially, the project focused around Halifax Stanfield International Airport, the region's busiest airport. A local committee worked both within and outside the building with other PBN Working Group contacts in NAVCANADA and our aircraft operators. The first major parts of the project's implementation went live in November of 2016, and expanded to other airports in the region late 2020, including several aspects of the enroute structures.
