I help support research initiatives in the Advance Manufacturing Material Group and Operation and management of the mechanical, aerospace, and biomedical engineering department’s Farsoon laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing (AM) machine. Secondary work includes the development and characterization of Fe-3Si wt. % soft magnetic steels for AM.

I Managed the operations of the Farsoon Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) Additive Manufacturing Machine that helped forward research initiatives for the mechanical, aerospace, and biomedical engineering department. I conducted research on soft magnetic steel alloys printed under L-PBF. Work was primarily interested in looking at how the residual stress and the grain structure could impact the annealing response. Further I assisted in the development of the printing of GRCop-84 under L-PBF through my understanding of material thermodynamics and solidification conditions.

I preformed research in metal additive manufacturing, and specialize in simulating the solidification conditions of nickel super alloys and their properties in relation to the electron powder bed fusion metal printers. Specific work involved outlining how alloy composition in Nickel Superalloys could impact the formation of equiaxed and columnar grains through the use of established solidification theory and through the development of two unique Nickel superalloy compositions designed to have variation in grain morphology through change in alloy composition.

Using laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing I used different gas mixtures to promote in-situ formation of oxides in a stainless steel In an attempt to explore simplifying the production of ODS alloys. I conducted a comprehensive analysis on the material properties which included compression testing, hardness testing, optical microscopy, SEM, and TEM.

I participated in an Accelerated 6-week training in advance manufacturing. Course material included 3D printers, fabrication, techniques and materials including titanium, carbon fiber, ABS plastics and other composite

I Taught merit badge classes covering chemistry, robotics, radio, electronics, and composite materials, and kept track of and updated paperwork on each individual scout that were going through the classes.
