As an educational community member, I draw upon my past experiences, including instruction and rehabilitation of emotionally, educationally and socially challenged students, and apply them to my current environment. Being a part of the Leadership team at Bud Carlson Academy, as well as my ongoing education has allowed me to make strong inroads to helping create a versatile, well-supported and equipped teaching staff. My goal is for students to engage in their own thinking on who they are, and who they want to become, and form their own unique conclusions about the community and their place in it. It is my goal to create a place where dialogue is conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect, where toleration of diverse opinions is paramount. I believe in active learning and use a variety of methods to encourage discussion and interaction. Student choice is important in order to encourage the expression of true learning, and thus, provides for a more accurate assessment.

As a lead instructor of summer camp over the course of several years, lead instructors are expected to have strong but fair disciplinary skills, create dynamic and appropriate curriculum, show strong group management skills, act as role model and mentor for our CIT (counselor in training) staff, and do their best to ensure the safety of each camper.

Oversaw Special Education and at-risk students in classroom settings as well as in off-site, community-based learning experiences. Monitored student growth and achievement, mentored select, at-risk students and provided extended learning opportunities.

Adapted general education lessons in various subjects for students with mild to moderate disabilities. Worked with students to create vocational and education goals, with the aim to retain at-risk students in a school setting. Worked with families to create and maintain extended learning opportunities and employment.
