Having exceeded expectations as marine advisor to Taharoa Ironsands for five years, I was offered the Chief Executive role. Port Taharoa exports around three million tonnes p.a. of Ironsands (for steel making) using the three largest cargo ships that visit NZ. The port and mine are a highly unionised workforce. Reorganising the port, replaced contractors, developed performance measure, improved pilotage and undertook feasibility studies to improve commercial and operation port performance.
