Michael Ortiz serves as Vice President of Policy at Sequoia Capital, where he advises investors, founders, and companies on navigating complex emerging technology and regulatory issues, including related to AI, defense, fintech, crypto, and health, across the US, UK, and Europe. He previously led public affairs at Roivant Sciences, a unicorn biotech and health tech company that incubates and scales innovative startups.Mr. Ortiz has extensive experience in public service, including working on the Biden-Harris Presidential Transition Team as a member of the National Security Council Agency Review Team and leading the Senate confirmations for the Director of the CIA and the Deputy Secretary of Defense.During the Obama Administration, he held senior roles at the White House, National Security Council (NSC), and Department of State, including serving as Deputy Counterterrorism Coordinator and as Senior Advisor to the National Security Advisor. Earlier, he helped advance President Obama’s legislative priorities at the White House and NSC, and contributed to the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Team. His early career included serving as a spokesman for Senator Barack Obama and an aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.Mr. Ortiz is also deeply involved in national security and tech policy strategy. He is a Strategy and Statecraft Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a member of the Atlantic Council’s Counterterrorism Study Group, and a member of the Stanford in Washington National Advisory Council. He is a corporate member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and has also been a participant in the CFR Term Member Program, the Aspen Institute Socrates Program, and the Milken Institute Associates Program. He graduated with honors from Stanford University.
