I have observed ophthalmologists perform a variety of out-patient procedures including premium-IOL cataract surgery, LASIK, pterygium removal, blepharoplasty, and intravitreal anti-VEGF injections. During this externship I gained experience in private practice optometry at a practice that focuses on primary eye care, difficult contact lens fits, and red-eye urgent care exams. In my four months at this practice, I performed partial and complete eye examinations on hundreds of adult patients. I participated in and observed many difficult contact lens fits including soft torics, soft multifocals, orthokeratology lenses, and scleral RGP lenses. I performed many complete routine and diabetic eye exams on adult patients. I performed complete pediatric eye exams on children as young as 9 months old. I performed many glaucoma examinations, including interpreting Zeiss Cirrus OCT, Optovue RT-Vue OCT, and Humphrey visual field testing results. I performed many cataract post-op exams including 1 day post-ops. I performed low vision refractions and examinations including device recommendation and training. I performed vision therapy examinations, created therapy plans for patients, and led vision therapy activities for many patients.
