I’ve always enjoyed writing stories as far as I can remember. However, growing up, I felt that I was destined to change lives as a registered nurse, just like my mom, aunts and uncles, and every other cousin. It wasn’t until I got into nursing school that I realized nursing wasn’t for me. I spent a year forcing myself to study and stomaching (pun intended) my way through clinicals. It was a rewarding experience, but not as astonishing as medical shows made it seem. Eventually, I folded. I quit nursing school. I was out of school for a few semesters working and figuring out my next move. One day, a local radio station aired an ad about a one-minute video competition with a price of $5,000. Thinking to myself that this is a simple task for a lot of money, I recruited my brother and a friend to make the video with me. I wrote the script, directed it, and even acted on it. Confidently, we turned it in. We didn’t win. I asked myself what I could’ve done differently to get as close as possible to winning, and how can I apply these to future competitions. I studied camera angles, editing techniques, and storytelling formats. Just like that, my filmmaking career began. The following semester, I applied at PBSC's film program and never looked back. I’m currently bettering my writing, directing, and camera skills through practice to make a powerful portfolio. I’m mostly behind the camera filming sketches, music videos, live performances, and weddings. When I’m not on camera, I’m writing and editing. Because of filmmaking, I met beautiful people, uncovered some of Florida’s hidden gems, and allowed my former students to discover their talents and possibly pursue their passion. Occurrences like these are those that I want to encounter at a larger scale. I’m open to experiences that will allow me to tell a story and change other peoples’ lives through the lenses.
