Michael is now an aviation consultant at Michael Roach Aviation. In truth, mostly retired. But available for interesting, challenging projects. Mr. Roach was co-founder and first president of America West Airlines, currently the largest airline in the world, American Airlines. No, he claims no responsibility for that; entirely Doug Parker's doing, but it's fun to say. (A few years ago America West acquired US Airways, then in bankruptcy, and adopted its name; then US Airways acquired American Airlines when it was in bankruptcy. Doug Parker and his team are amazing.)For better and some worse, Mr. Roach played a leading role in bringing about US airline deregulation, working for both Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter in the 1970s. Mr. Roach was a senior executive at Continental Airlines in the early 1980s. In the late 1990s thru the early 2000s he worked for Mexican President Zedillo and for Cintra (the government-controlled holding company that then owned México’s principal airlines) to develop for México a national air transport competition policy and strategies for returning Aeromexico and Mexicana to the private sector. As usual in México, little was implemented.For years he was partner with Phil Roberts in Roberts, Roach & Associates.On and on. But, here's the important part. Michael is really good at figuring out complicated issues/fact situations. And loves to do it.
