Mike successfully managed 6 major projects in Group Compliance, Risk Management, Anti Money Laundering, and Financial Crime Prevention at ABSA. These included Trade Based Money Laundering, Global Sanctions Screening, Project Ayasdi, Swift Compliance Analytics, Social Network Analytics and Transaction Monitoring Optimisation.

Mike successfully managed the Third Party Cyber and Privacy Risk Management project as part of Nedbank’s Digi-RACE (Digitisation of Risk Management, Audit and Compliance across the Enterprise) programme. This project was a key drive to improve the management of Third Party suppliers, which is currently the second highest risk overall to Nedbank. The project implemented the RSA Archer Governance Risk and Compliance solution and all related business processes to automate and improve the management of all 10 000 + Nedbank suppliers to reduce the risk of suppliers compromising Nedbank or Nedbank’s clients’ data. The project is regarded as a major success by business sponsors and gives Nedbank a key competitive advantage in South Africa’s banking industry. Mike then managed key strategic projects in the Risk Management, Suspicious Activity Monitoring and Anti Money Laundering portfolio within Nedbank. This included major projects in Cross Border and Correspondent Banking, Suspicious Activity Monitoring for Retail Customers, and Suspicious Activity Monitoring for Correspondent Banks.

Mike led the IT Stream on a major strategic project at the Department of Defence to improve the management of Assets and Inventory. The IT Stream delivered Advanced Analytics of the current data on the Department of Defence Systems, a system review of current systems, and a comprehensive User Requirements Specification for the future Defence Single Logistics System. Mike was privileged to work with senior military leaders up to generals from the Army, Air Force, Navy and Medical Services.

Mike was privileged to work for The Moss Group, a dynamic Strategy and Sustainability Consultancy in Cape Town. He managed the implementation of an Industry Strategy to improve performance and sustainability whilst creating jobs in a major manufacturing sector.

Mike was a SAP functional consultant at Deloitte Consulting from 1996 to 1999 with deep specialised skills in many SAP modules. After completing his MBA in 2000, he grew his role into Project Management of large Deloitte Consulting projects of 50+ people and budgets of over R100m.He successfully led and delivered many of the largest and most important projects within Deloitte Consulting’s South Africa’s SAP Practice.His primary role was managing large SAP business change projects, but he was also known as a versatile strategic thinker and communicator who operated above the level of pure technology consulting.His clients included ABB, Sasol, Barclays, Cell C, Exxaro, Standard Bank, Engen, Gold Fields, SABMiller, Total, Brandhouse, and BHP Billiton. He has a reputation for successful delivery of these projects on time, on budget and to quality standards. Mike was known as a versatile leader with broad business insight and skills, who was strong not only in his core area of leading SAP technology projects, but was equally at home taking on challenges in new service areas and industries. He successfully led several strategic advisory projects, such as the project to assess the impact of Low or Negative Interest Rates across multiple clusters at Barclays Africa across all African countries. This was a key role reporting directly to the ABB CIO to improve and optimise the ERP Team performance across all aspects of service delivery, including Help Desk calls, change management, delivering projects, working effectively with business and preparing for the planned implementation of the Global ABB SAP template. The role included direct operational management of the internal ABB ERP team.
