Michael Rowe is a leading international expert on policing. He has worked in academic institutions in Britain, New Zealand, the UAE, and the United States and provided consultancy services to police and Universities in those countries as well as in Cyprus, Ukraine, the EU, and for Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary, the Metropolitan Police Authority, the Department for International Development, and the Stevens Independent Policing Commission in the UK. His specialist interests include police management and leadership, training, ethics and diversity, and accountability and community relations. He has researched widely on these topics and written 25 peer-reviewed journal articles, and written or edited 10 books on these issues. He is on the editorial board of the journal Policing and Society.He has been a member of the executive committee of the British Society of Criminology, during which time he established the Policing Network as a specialist group. From 2006-2009 he was Vice President of the Australia and New Zealand Society of Criminology. From 2013-16 he was Head of Department of Social Sciences and Languages at Northumbria University and a member of the executive of the Faculty of Arts, Design and Social Sciences. He ran a department of 75 academic staff, delivering undergraduate programmes for nearly 850 students, as well as masters and PhD programmes. He has been external examiner at five British universities and independent reviewer for REF submissions and new degree programmes.
