Responsible for all operations of a multi-station hospital based regional ambulance service Major organizational accomplishments include the development of an organizational structure, policies and procedures for the 1990 expansion which doubled the size of the service. Responsible for a simultaneous construction project for two new stations as and staffing of those stations. Additional administrative responsibility included oversight of the Base Hospital Program which was responsible for medical act delegation to 230 primary paramedics working for 10 different ambulance services. Successfully implemented skills expansion including paramedic defibrillation, Symptom Relief Program, and Laryngeal Mask Airway use. Hospital responsibilities included participation on multiple committees including the Occupational Health and Safety Committee (Co-Chair), Emergency Plans, Environmental Services, Patient Care, Y2K planning, Accreditation, and Emergency Department. Participated as a management representative on the Labour Management Committee for the SEIU workforce group and as a member of the hospital contract negotiation team.

Responsible for a 6 vehicle ambulance service and dispatch centre, administering a budget in excess of $1.2 million and a total of 42 full and part time staff. Major accomplishments include computerization of dispatch records, construction of a new 6 bay ambulance station, establishment of policies and procedures, structure and functional audits, reorganization of the management structure, coordination of a regional mapping program, establishment of an ALS/BLS Base Hospital, implementation of prehospital automatic defibrillation, and establishment of a new Volunteer Ambulance Service in the village of Apsley. Successfully coordinated the development of a compiled database program for computerisation of dispatch records to provide operational statistics for an ambulance service.
Manager Ambulance Services
As a hospital based manager I developed this service over 7 years from a basic service with one station and 10 employees through an expansion to 6 vehicle service operating out of 2 stations with 28 employees and performing limited advanced skills. These changes resulted in a significant improvement in the level of emergency care available to the public in the upper Ottawa Valley. Major accomplishments included renovation of the main station, the research, proposal development, and initiation of an additional ambulance station in the village of Eganville. Assisted in the start up of Central Ambulance Dispatching for Renfrew County, the establishment and training of the volunteer ambulance services in Denbigh and Deep River, development and implementation of policies and procedures, establishment of structural and functional audits, coordination of a community CPR training, and the provision of air ambulance (helicopter) service through a charter agreement with a local air firm. Directly responsible for providing mandatory training programs and regular inservice training to upgrade the basic qualifications of the attendants. Continued to perform ambulance calls on both land and air (helicopter) service as part of a crew on a regular basis.
