As a domestic freight broker, my general duties entailed procuring customers (i.e., shippers) and managing their loads, partnering them with the best available carriers. Thus, I worked closely with many diverse industries, such as industrial manufacturers, produce, and construction supply distributors. Ambient market research, not only for these specific industries but also for the supply chain as a whole, was a priority.

I wore many hats in this position, which lasted for the majority of my time at Sewanee. My primary role was serving as a philosophy tutor for my fellow undergraduates. Thus, I was expected to be knowledgeable in every field offered by the department: from ethics to metaphysics, formal logic to political philosophy, etc. As a tutor, I would offer critiques on written assignments, would teach mini-lectures remedially, and would (more broadly) help students plan for their coursework.I also acted as an undergraduate TA, which — to my knowledge — had zero precedent at Sewanee. In this capacity, I functioned similarly to a graduate TA: grading papers, drafting and refining syllabi, making coffee runs, and occasionally teaching as a substitute.

During this summer position, I worked in the Office of Advancement as an assistant intern. Given the department's focus on alumni relations and fundraising, I was responsible for various tasks, such as organizing and sending materials for fundraising campaigns, sending birthday wishes to alumni, soliciting contributions from past donors, etc. I was also responsible for several long-term projects, all of which involved the digitization and maintenance of donor records. In my first year at Sewanee, I worked as a research assistant in the Jessie Ball duPont Library. Though my responsibilities here were various, my role generally functioned as follows: a student would request help — often at the last minute — in researching a topic for an assignment; I would compile research for them from digital and print databases; we would schedule a follow-up appointment, in which I would present my findings and help direct their final essay. I also facilitated the University's web transition to different platforms (e.g., Brightspace), where I worked with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML5. Furthermore, I often sourced and edited digital media for faculty publications.

At the circulation desk, I assisted patrons with managing outstanding collections, with checking out materials, with updating account information, and with help navigating OverDrive, the library's eBook loaning service.
