One of the ideas that was instilled in me at a young age was that hard work can get you anything. Because of this, I have made choices that test my absolve and work ethic. While at Baylor School, I chose to play sports in middle and high school because they tested me in a way that academics did not. Being able to recall lessons from memory is very different from actually performing the task, which athletics taught me. After high school, I knew that I would be tested further when I started college, but I did not want to wait until then to continue my life lessons. Instead of helping my father and uncle on the family farm, the summer between my last high school year and my first college year I got a job at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. The work was not easy and I struggled early in the summer to keep the pace my bosses wanted, but I kept working until I was able to impress my bosses. I was never late, even though the start time was 6:00 am, I never complained about the work, and I always did my best even when my bosses were not around. Because of this, I was hired again the next summer. The second summer was a bit different because I had experience and my bosses let me teach some of the new workers the skills they would need. I was tasked with keeping the new summer employees in check and making sure the quality of work was acceptable for the golf course. Once again, I worked hard to teach the new employees and worked even harder to set an example for them to follow. My bosses were even more impressed by my work the second summer because I was not only trying to do my best everyday, but also ensure that others were also doing their best everyday. While other jobs would have been easier, I knew I would not be tested. If I had taken the easy way and never worked at the Country Club, I would not have grown as a person. Hard work is truly the key to success, and I will never be afraid of hard work.
