Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations necessary to ensure that the organization achieves its objectives. Work with the chief executive and other members of the leadership team to set the organization's strategic goals and then translates these into specific operational objectives. Also works out what resources, including people and money, are needed to achieve these objectives. These activities that have been put in place to achieve the objectives have to be managed. Policies and procedures must be put in place specifically for recruiting, managing and retaining volunteers, whose motivations are often different from those of paid employees. Part of the objective-setting process includes deciding on measures, or key performance indicators, to assess how the objectives are being achieved. Must make sure that all activities are monitored, and key performance indicators reported on a regular basis so that the objectives will be achieved.
