My decision to become a teacher developed partly out of my enthusiasm for education, but also out of an appreciation for what teachers do daily. Over the years I realized that I had a natural aptitude for guiding and instructing others. My bachelor’s degree equipped me to cover many areas of the curriculum, and in my working life, I have been given roles that have allowed me to advise and train colleagues. Like many people who are passionate about their careers, I work at my best when faced with a fresh and exciting challenge. Having spent almost twenty years as a primary school teacher, during which time I have held several positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in my current position of assistant principal, I am highly motivated to take on a position of greater leadership in a school that corresponds to my core teaching values of inclusion, openness and continually striving to improve its pupils’ learning experience. At the heart of my career aims is my unswerving desire to help my students learn and better themselves, motivating them to become positive contributors to society. I would describe myself as being persistent, patient, and an extremely hard worker. To be more successful in helping others, I need to increase my grasp of an understanding of the fundamental areas of education, such as administration, planning, and organizing, and refine my existing leadership skills. It is for these reasons that I pursued a Master of Arts in Education Degree to develop a better understanding of how best to serve students.In addition to eventually obtaining a master’s degree in education and taking part in the Ed.S Leadership Program, I envision enriching my educational experience by immersing myself in such topics as organization theory, school law, negotiations, and even finance in education. One of my long-term goals is to serve a school as a principal, meeting goals that measure just how well schools and the district are performing.By applying what I have learned, I hope to improve my educational leadership philosophy and make a difference in the education sector in my community and beyond.
