Michael Scheidl *) 01.12.1954 in Viennaborn and raised in Vienna; 3 sibs, humanistic academic High School education for performing arts at Max Reinhardt Seminar/Vienna, diploma in 1979 married to Nora Scheidl, Stage-, Costumedesigner; 3 children (Philipp 32, Julia 30, Maximilian 20); kein creedlessBeing an artistic director, stage director and actor (theater, TV, cinema), Michael Scheidl is experienced in speaking-, music- and dance theater, in their traditional areas just as well as in free lance areas with a special focus on cross over, new formats and new performances.Within the institution „netzzeit“, which he founded together with Nora Scheidl and which exists since more than two decades, and within the biannual performed format „OUT OF CONTROL“, Festival for New Music Theatre, he realised numerous avantgardistic theater-projects and comssions (First Nights), together with all kinds of artists, composers, librettists and coproducing partners from its developement to staging on more than 50 different Venues. Together with partners like Bregenzer Festspiele, Münchener Biennale, Salzburger Festspiele, Biennale Venezia, Wiener Festwochen and others, soloist ensembles like "Klangforum Wien" and "die reihe" and others he produced and/or directed music theater by Peter Eötvös, Gorg Kreisler, Olga Neuwirth a.m.o.Apart from his work within the festival and netzzeit, Scheidl works as a free lance director, especially in the area of new music theatre. But also in the more classical area he directed Mozart, Rossini, Humperdinck as well as classical polpular operettas. He recently became well known to a broader audience with his direction of Ernst Kreneks Opera „Kehraus um St. Stephan“, which has been performed at Bregenzer Festspiele, Luzerner Theater and at Wiener Volksoper, where it became the first direction of a twnetieth century opera, which was restaged for a further season at the request of the audience.
