Michael C. Schimpff is a Principal and Vice President at Kleinschmidt. Joining Kleinschmidt in 1980, Mike earned a B.A. in Biology from Drake University and an M.S. in Forest Resources from the University of New Hampshire, where his specialty was forest hydrology. He is a member with the American Society of Dam Safety Officials, the Society of American Foresters, the American Water Resources Association and National Hydropower Association. Mike is a Registered Professional Forester, as well as a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Maine, Colorado, New York, and Nebraska. He is also a Registered Professional Hydrologist with the American Institute of Hydrology and a Natural Resources Conservation Service-approved Technical Service Provider for the State of Maine.Since joining Kleinschmidt, Mike has managed and conducted numerous hydrologic and hydraulic studies including hydroelectric feasibility studies, PMF analyses, dam breach studies, energy analyses and modeling, watershed modeling, reservoir management, backwater and transient analyses. He has developed several computer programs to perform various statistical analyses on hydrologic data such as a flow duration analyses and flow frequency analyses.. He has expertise in the following computer programs:, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-RESSIM,HMR51 & 52, WRC Flood Frequency Analyses, NWS Dambrk, as well as the suite of Microsoft Office programs. Another area of expertise has been headwater benefits analyses. Mr. Schimpff has provided expert testimony and analyses for several litigations in this area. Mr. Schimpff also has considerable experience providing expert testimony in the area of hydrology, and open channel hydraulics and has provided his expertise in many due diligence assessments and third party design reviews of hydroelectric assets for projects across the country.
