CurrentRESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS THAT WILL REDRESS INEQUITIES IN HEALTH CARE SERVICES THAT HAVE HISTORICALLY PLACED THE HEALTH OF MALES AT RISK. THE OFFICE IS CHARGED WITH THE DEVELOLPMENT OF STRATEGIES, POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS, AND PROGRAMS THAT ARE DESIGNED TO INCREASE HEALTHCARE ACCESS AND ADVANCE A CONTINUUM OF CARE FOR UNDERSERVED MEN AND BOYS. PERSONAL STATEMENT:As a County Public Health Administrator for 22-years, Director Shaw brings an exceptional professional background to our research project on disenfranchised Urban Males. In the capacity of Education and Prevention Director for the Office of HIV/AIDS, and the Director of the Office of Urban Male Health for the 6-th most ethnic, culturally, and gender diverse health jurisdictions in the US. Personally, his wisdom and knowledge of growing up in Urban America shaped by the challenges of a disenfranchised African American family struggling with poverty, substance abuse, divorce, and key family members involved in the criminal justice system. However, his resilience shaped by a community of faith, that honored education and integrity, an urban community with healthy men who model manhood when a father was not home. The combination has created a research partner who really understands community participatory research and what is means to be grounded in culturally relevancy, and ethnic and economic diversity when conducting transformative community educational inquires which result in capacity building and generational sustainability of traditional and non-traditional approaches too reducing health disparities.
