Assist the Supervisor in leading the core team in delivering high levels of person centred care to those living with dementia or requiring assistance. Ensuring all personal care needs are met appropriately by the team members and assist in seeing to personal care needs also. Taking part in training when required to meet the needs of the service and those receiving care. Ensuring all care plan documentation is accurate and up to date and that all relevant people are notified of any changes, liaising with family, friends and outer agencies such as doctors, district nursing team, dental surgeries, opticians, etc.

Within this role I was tasked with overseeing the day to day running of the two homes on one site, a mixed residential unit and a dementia based unit amounting to 76 beds in total and overseeing a staff team of over 100. It was my responsibility to ensure the rota provided a good skill mix and appropriate cover of the home at all times through annual leave and sickness cover. I conducted all pre admission assessments into the home, liaising with the social work department and other outer agencies to come together. As well as this I conducted all in house audit and quality assurance systems in line with the company policies including care plan reviews, medication competencies, meal time audits, room audits, medication audits, environmental safety audit, equipment audit, fire safety compliance, staff appraisals and supervisions. I regularly conducted interviews and was involved in small scare training within the home delivering a person centred approach to care, identifying and reporting any training needs staff required. This was a multi site role working over 2 sites.

My working week within Ashdene was split working office hours and care hours assisting the staff team, working alongside them closely to promote person centred care to those living with dementia. In this position I was instrumental in reviewing and redesigning the care planning used within the home and also many training and policy elements also. I help with toileting, meal times, dressing, washing and any aspect they may need help with. I am always there to be a companion to these residents, my job is to be a friend as well as a carer. I am very passionate at ensuring that the elderly receive the best care available to them by myself and the people I work with. Having finished my HNC and approaching the end of my SVQ I was promoted to Senior Carer in 2014 where my role is to support the manager and supervisors in the running of the home effectively, liaising with the supervisors and manager to ensure that the highest care is being delivered in our home setting whilst building and maintains connections with residents and outer agencies. I have also been actively and heavily involved in care planning and ensuring that documentation is up to date and accurate, I have received training in many aspects of care and also ensure that the care team are using their training and skills effectively to the benefit to the home and the residents. I am regularly left in charge of the home in the absence of the manager and supervisor due to some recent shift changes which has been a steep learning curve.

I first started at Links View as a bank care assistant while undertaking my related college courses, this is where I received my first part time and then full time post before being promoted to a senior.

Starting as a Bank Care Assistant for a 19 bedded nursing home situated within an old jute baron's redbrick mansion house on the banks of the tay in Newport-On-Tay. I was responsible for all levels of person care.
