Directly supervises staff assigned to the Battalion. Mentors and provides leadership, technical advice and administrative guidance and instructions regarding programs, objectives, policies, procedures, mission analysis, course of action, problem solving and coordination of administrative activities. Identifies training and development needs, establishes training plans, and provides formal and informal training as required. Initiates various requests for personnel actions such as promotions, reassignments, training, performance-based awards, disciplinary, etc. Approves sick and annual leave and use of compensatory time earned. Establishes performance standards and evaluates subordinates. Receives and attempts to resolve complaints and grievances on an informal basis; effects minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands; and recommends disciplinary actions in more serious cases. Promotes acceptance and adherence to the provision of programs such as Equal Employment Opportunity and similar special emphasis programs. Develops employee performance standards and prepares employee performance evaluations. Provides advice, counsel, and instructions on work and administrative matters. Develops or revises position descriptions as required. Interviews and selects candidates for vacant positions. Serves as the first level for resolution of disciplinary problems and grievances, referring group grievances or more serious complaints to the supervisor. Supervises the day to day activities of military and civilian employees. Plans and assigns non-routine work, sets priorities, and schedules the completion of special projects; cross assigns and levels workload based on priorities, existing projects, and selective consideration of the difficulty of assignments and capabilities of employees. Enforces timeliness, quality, procedural, policy, and regulatory requirements. Provides advice and counsel or instruction to employees.
