Duties and Responsibilities: Establish job requirements and identify appropriate rigging equipment and plan work procedures from the verbal instruction and specification provided by the supervisor. Assemble and install rigging gear to lift, lower, move or position loads. Maintain and inspect carefully rigging gear for breakage, deformity, corrosion, cracks and any other defects and know the capabilities and capacities of such items. Recognize common defects in lifting equipment and when and when not to use them. Examine objects to be moved, the size, shape, weight, free from raise, protect the sling from any sharp edges, any support used to suspend the load is strong enough for the job, keep well clear of all loads in motion and decide on the type of equipment necessary to move them. Communicate efficiently with crane operator using either conventional hand signs or communication head sets. Also as a Roustabout on the rig, we had to maintain the cleaning, move equipment from one point to another, help other positions as needed, offload and backload boats as they arrived, be the firefighting teams on board the rig, and also load and unload the helicopters as they arrived.
