As a PhD Candidate and Graduate Research Assistant in the Cell-Matrix Mechanics Laboratory at Virginia Commonwealth University, I am passionate about understanding how the extracellular matrix influences biochemical and mechanical signaling and drives breast cancer progression. My dissertational research involves generating stable knockout cell lines using CRISPR/Cas9 technologies and conducting various bioassays to quantify changes in cancer-associated markers and cellular phenotype. In addition to my thesis research, I also manage many day-to-day lab tasks, such as creating purchase orders, tracking inventory, training new students, and proofreading technical writing. I have a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, where I served as an undergraduate teaching assistant and received multiple honors and awards. I have developed a breadth of technical skills on the bench, as well as managerial and organizational skills in the lab. I have particular expertise in cancer mechanobiology and signal transduction, with a focus on cell-based assay design.
