The role provides long term strategic direction and leadership in health and safety, security and business continuity for a medical research organisation covering 28 units and 4,500 staff in the UK and Africa. I lead a team of over 30 health and safety professionals, 3 as direct line manager, providing a value based service to the organisation. My team provide a central planning, policy development and assurance role as well as support to units. Each member of the team provides expertise in a particular technical discipline (chemistry, radiation, microbiology, genetic modification) and different HSS competencies which may be called upon by any unit. Introduced a business planning approach to health and safety management into a public funded body.Turned round the organisation to become a benchmark sector leader in good health and safety practice. Achieved an 50% reduction in all accidents and a 70% reduction in lost time accidentsDeveloped and implemented a business continuity planning programme for all MRC research units. Nominated for the Business Continuity Strategy Award.

Leading a team of safety professionals covering 5,000 staff on 7 sites within the UK.* Successfully reversed an increasing accident frequency trend on a major production site leading to a 40% reduction in lost time accidents in 18 months.* Developed and implemented a health & safety management system giving ownership and commitment to continuous improvement by local management.

Provided a full safety and environmental support service as part of the site management team. Established and developed a safety team at WFL's 1700 employee R&D site at Beckenham. Turned around the site's H&S performance to become amongst the industry leaders in 3 years. A position that was consolidated in the fourth year.* Reduced the number of notifiable lost time accidents and major injuries by 90%.* Reduced all injury accidents by 70% with a consequential drop in lost time of 90%.

* Re-organised and streamlined the R&D radiation protection service.
