Working with Power Roll Limited to develop their novel back contact, flexible solar substrate. I work in the University of Sheffield laboratories in the electronic and photonic molecular materials research group (EPMM).I fabricate and characterize back contact perovskite solar cells, analyzing data in order to optimize performance metrics.

Part of the Electronic and Photonic Molecular Materials (EPMM - http://www.epmm.group.shef.ac.uk/) research group at the University of Sheffield. My Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded CDT (Centre for Doctoral Training - http://www.cdt-pv.org) was spread across seven top universities in the United Kingdom. After a year of intense, fast-paced training in the fabrication and analysis of solar cells at each University (including Oxford and Cambridge courses), my research was been focused in Sheffield. In Sheffield laboratories, I have fabricated literature-standard perovskite solar cells and have investigated many alternative hole transport materials (HTMs) for perovskite solar cells. I apply current-voltage measurements in combination with several spectroscopic techniques, collecting data used to optimize the quality of charge extraction in my perovskite devices. To gain insight into the crystal structure of my perovskite materials I have overseen X-ray diffraction beamline experiments at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility(ESRF) and Diamond Light Source National Labs. Over the 3+ years of my PhD research, I regularly interface with lab equipment and analyse data with MATLAB, LabVIEW, and Python code, written or revised by myself. A large portion of my research has been based around collecting data and finding ways to understand and refine a process from that data.

I fabricated and analysed perovskite solar cells based on PowerRoll’s cheap and scalable substrates. I helped Power Roll screen many materials, identifying key avenues for them to achieve high efficiency solar modules.
