Nas & Mcas Miramar, Ca

My duties included operating refueling vehicles up to 35 tons to transport fuel to end-users. I was responsible for receiving aviation and ground fuel products by pipeline, truck & railcar. I also stored and issued liquid and gaseous Oxygen and Nitrogen. I documented all activity which required the use of basic mathematics to calculate the amount of product received and issued. I managed bulk fuel storage areas using automatic tank gauges & hand gauging techniques. I utilized strapping charts to convert product quantities from feet & inches to gallons, and corrected quantities to net at 60 degrees for custody transfer. I transferred fuel from bulk storage areas to day use areas and provided documentation. I performed housekeeping & maintenance work on fuel areas, systems, mobile equipment and buildings to include filter changes, valve lubrication & repair and meter calibration. I assigned work to FDSO's and ensured it was completed. I was responsible for the fuel dispatch operations and some accounting duties using the FCC fuels management software & ATG provided by DLA Energy (DESC).

My duties as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate - Fuels (ABF) increased as I moved up in rank from ABFAN to ABF2 and included: Operating, maintaining and performing organizational maintenance on aviation fueling and lubricating oil systems on deployed Aircraft Carriers (CVs), observing and enforcing fuel handling safety precautions and maintaining fuel quality surveillance and control in aviation fuel systems; supervising the operation and servicing of equipment associated with the fueling and defueling of aircraft ashore and afloat to include hot refueling operations. I was responsible for the training of assigned and temporary duty personnel. I was a highly trained member of the ships nucleus fire and damage control parties afloat and in assigned fuel and lubricating oil spaces.
