For many it provides the single most important focus of community pride, both locally and nationally. More recently the Stadium has rapidly taken on a number of wider and sophisticated roles, and DLA’s design approach has become underpinned by a strong understanding of the ‘live’ sports, leisure and entertainment destination, and their objectives. In recent years, DLA have been involved in many successful community based projects, with a variety of stakeholder groups including Colchester United’s Community Stadium, Falkirk Stadium, South Leeds Community Stadium, Headingley Carneigie Stadium in Leeds, and York City and York Knights’ new Community Stadium.Like all stadia, the above projects were designed to an exacting set of financial controls, in terms of both their initial capital cost, and their ongoing operating costs, by building into their design the maximum potential for generating revenue, both on match days and non-match days. We firmly believe that great stadia continue to reflect the towns and the cities to which they belong. Increasingly they are seen as valuable tools of urban regeneration and as a focus for wider leisure or commercial developments.All the more reason, therefore for having a deep understanding of the complexities of the stadium as a building type.
