The first lesson I remember learning was about DOS.When I was very young, I was obsessed with a particular game that only ran on DOS. My father and older brother, tired of operating the command-line multiple times a day to start it up for me, taught me the specific series of commands required to go from Windows to the game and back again. I didn't actually know what I was doing; I'd just memorized the magic words to make the plastic-and-glass box do what I wanted it to.Then I grew older, and I learned the actual meaning behind what I'd been doing all those years... but I never lost that feeling of wonder. Computers are amazing things that can do more than I'd ever imagined, and I've always wanted to work with them but have never found the opportunity to pivot my career.I'm fascinated in how many different elements come together in even a simple program: UX and UI are obvious, but there are hundreds of individual functions working together on the back-end each operating on even smaller blocks of logic. It's incredible.Professionally, I've worked with customers and coworkers from all sorts of backgrounds and with all levels of training and education. I've dipped my toes into technical support in every job at least once, as the resident "tech guy" who understands the logic behind the screen.Personally, I've built computers, troubleshot phones, managed hobby databases and done hobby programming – if it has to do with computers, I've done it. I've never found a computer skill I didn't find interesting or couldn't pick up.
