This company was excellent at gathering the very best people. We achieved demanding goals with very strict timescales. Daily stand ups were robust. People pulled together and things were done. That's satisfying as an engineer. I had the opportunity to develop processes around deployment of mathematical models onto embedded hardware. I worked with an image pipeline consultant and developed an image pipeline and exposure control. The internal review was stringent. I developed algorithms to track targets in non cooperative environments.

This is where I got my real grounding in engineering. I learned a broad spectrum of skills from soldering, mechanical engineering, PCB development, test equipment design, product support, system engineering, embedded software on early computer systems down to the micro code level, defect investigation, implemented on FPGA and SHARC DSP.Ferranti taught me how to engineer with quality. It was a unique place, with brilliant people. I learned how people should be led, by some great leaders.
